Skin Care Tips for Wrinkle Reduction

Wrinkle reduction is as easy as a good skin care routine, and the largest element of this routine is prevention. Collagen is one of the most important components of young looking skin and once it is gone, you cannot replace it. You can; however, preserve it with proper care and support through supplements and careful maintenance.

1. Get enough sleep. One thing about sleep is that you need plenty of it, but you also need to ensure that you are getting a restful sleep. If you are tossing and turning all night long, this cannot be classified as restful sleep. A restful eight hours of sleep can restore your skin's natural glow and provides many benefits to your skin.

2. Although you have probably been hit over the head with this one constantly, we can't stress the importance of it enough. Drink plenty of water each and every day, without fail. Skin can dry out if you do not drink enough water, and it is difficult to rehydrate it once it gets to that point. Dry skin can also increase the appearance of wrinkles.

3. It is not common for people to get "rickets" anymore. Rickets is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin D, which is a supplement you can take, and your body will process with just 15 minutes of exposure to sunlight three times a week. You do not need to sunbathe to get the benefits of the sun and you should definitely ensure that you are wearing adequate sunblock before any exposure to the direct rays of the sun. The sun can cause a great deal of damage to your skin, and may lead to melanoma (skin cancer). Tanning beds are not safe either, and can cause just as much damage as direct exposure to the sun.

4. Avoid chemical peels. They are just not good for you skin and contain many ingredients you would be horrified about, including urea, which is the main chemical component in urine. Chemical peels can leave your skin with a red appearance for weeks, and the long term effects may not even be that noticeable.

5. Free radicals do have an important role in the function of our cells such as attacking bacteria. They do get a really bad "rap", though, but this is mainly because if they are out of control, they can cause damage to our cells which shows up in the aging of our skin, redness, bags under our eyes and saggy skin.

6. Exfoliate. By removing the dead skin cells from your face and body, the appearance of your skin will be fresh and bright. Removing the dead skin cells also allows your skin to absorb moisture more readily so that it remains hydrated.

7. Cleanse and moisturize. There is really no need to use harsh moisturizers, simple plain water is fine, unless you have very oily skin. Using certain cleansers all of the time may dry out your skin and lead to it appearing dull and patchy. Follow up the cleansing process with a good moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15 - 30.

8. Use serum after cleansing and before moisturizing. The active ingredients in serums are great for maintaining the appearance of younger looking skin.

9. Use a product that contains Retinol. Retinol has been proven to minimize the appearance of wrinkles while helping to stimulate the production of collagen. There are many specialized products for your face or eyes, you just need to ask for some assistance at the cosmetics counter.

10. Don't drink too much alcohol. A few glasses of wine or any other beverage is fine, but excessive drinking can add age to your face like you would not believe. After years of hard drinking, especially with spirits, you will sustain damage that cannot be reversed. Aside from aging people, alcohol can cause many other problems, so drink in moderation. Hard drinking is something we do in our youth, but as we grow older, it tends to age us exponentially. Alcohol dehydrates the body and deepens wrinkles, making us look much older than we really are. Excessive drinking can also bring on skin conditions such as rosacea or exacerbate them, making you look a lot older than you really are.

There are also hormonal factors linked directly with how our body ages. Science has identified a specific hormone and studies have been done on how it significantly affects our physical age compared to our chronological age. Could this hormone be the key to retaining or regaining a youthful look? Find out in this thought-provoking
